Philosophy & Approach

Surgery guided by principle, not profit

A clear statement of how Kevin McGarry approaches plastic surgery — the values that guide every consultation, every decision, and every operation. These are not marketing claims. They are the foundation of the practice.

A practice built on integrity

Plastic surgery exists in a commercial environment that can, at its worst, exploit vulnerability, create unrealistic expectations, and prioritise volume over outcomes. Kevin McGarry's practice is built in deliberate opposition to that model.

The philosophy here is straightforward: every patient deserves a named, qualified consultant who will give them an honest appraisal, perform their surgery personally, and remain accountable to them through recovery and beyond. There is no upselling, no handoff to junior staff, and no pressure to proceed.

Good surgery requires good judgement — and good judgement sometimes means advising a patient not to have surgery at all. That counsel, when appropriate, is given freely and without hesitation.

"I measure the success of my practice not by the number of operations I perform, but by the quality of outcomes and the trust my patients place in me."

Kevin McGarry — Consultant Plastic Surgeon, FRCS(Plast)
Core Principles

The pillars of this practice

01
Surgeon Accountability

Kevin McGarry conducts every consultation, performs every operation, and manages every recovery personally. You will never be seen by a different doctor than the one you consulted, and your surgeon will always be directly reachable during your aftercare period.

02
Evidence-Based Practice

Every technique, every implant, every clinical decision is grounded in peer-reviewed evidence and current best practice guidelines. Novelty is not pursued for its own sake. Patients benefit from approaches that are proven to work safely and effectively.

03
No Sales Culture

There is no consultation fee pressure, no upselling, and no commission-driven recommendations. If a procedure is not right for you, you will be told plainly. If the risks outweigh the likely benefit, surgery will not be recommended. Patient welfare comes first — always.

04
Informed Consent

Consent is not a form signed on the day of surgery. It is an ongoing process — a full discussion of risks, alternatives, likely outcomes, and recovery that begins at consultation and continues until you are genuinely ready to decide.

05
Transparency on Outcomes

Realistic outcomes are discussed openly, including what surgery cannot achieve. No procedure is presented as risk-free or guaranteed. Patients leave consultations with an accurate picture of what to expect — not a carefully managed impression designed to encourage booking.

06
Long-Term Relationship

The relationship between surgeon and patient does not end in the operating theatre. Follow-up, access, and long-term outcome matter as much as the procedure itself. Kevin McGarry remains available to his patients well beyond their formal post-operative period.

How ethical decisions are made

Every clinical decision in this practice is guided by the four principles of medical ethics — and applied with rigour and honesty, not as a compliance exercise.

I
Autonomy — Respecting Your Decision

You have the right to make decisions about your own body. Kevin McGarry's role is to ensure those decisions are fully informed — not to override them, but also not to facilitate choices that carry unacceptable risk. Your autonomy is respected, and your questions are welcomed, not managed.

II
Beneficence — Acting in Your Interest

Every recommendation made in this practice is intended to benefit you — not to generate revenue, not to fill an operating list, and not to satisfy a demand that should not be met. If the evidence does not support a likely benefit, the procedure will not be recommended.

III
Non-Maleficence — First, Do No Harm

The foundational obligation of medicine. Risk is discussed honestly and completely. Where risk is disproportionate to likely benefit — whether due to health factors, anatomy, or unrealistic expectations — surgery will not proceed. This is not a refusal to help; it is help, properly defined.

IV
Justice — Fair and Equal Treatment

Every patient receives the same quality of care, the same honesty, and the same time. There is no tiered service based on the value of the procedure being discussed. A patient requesting a minor skin excision receives the same attention and respect as one planning a major reconstructive procedure.

What this means in practice

What we do

We give every patient adequate time at consultation. We discuss risks honestly, including worst-case scenarios. We advise against surgery when it is not the right choice. We perform every operation personally. We remain accessible throughout recovery. We answer questions directly — without deflection or vagueness.

What we do not do

We do not use high-pressure sales tactics or time-limited offers. We do not delegate surgery to junior staff. We do not recommend procedures to patients who are not suitable candidates. We do not minimise risks to encourage bookings. We do not pursue volume at the expense of quality or safety.

What you can expect

Honesty, even when that means telling you something you may not want to hear. Direct access to your surgeon — not a patient coordinator acting as a buffer. A recommendation grounded in your anatomy, your health, and your goals — not in what generates the highest fee. A surgical outcome that reflects careful planning and personal execution.

What you should not expect

Guaranteed results — no surgeon can promise these. A risk-free procedure — all surgery carries risk. An instant result — healing takes time, and swelling can mask results for months. A solution to problems that are not primarily physical in nature — surgery is not a substitute for other forms of support.

Experience this approach in person

The best way to understand whether this practice is right for you is to come and have an honest conversation. Consultations are private, unhurried, and entirely focused on your individual situation.
